Taco Bell is officially back in Uxbridge — and no, we shall not be discussing how long it’s been since the last one. Time is a social construct, and frankly, the years have been unkind enough without reminding us of our fast-food history.

Fresh off the triumphant return of Pizza Express, another familiar name has stepped back into the spotlight: Taco Bell. That’s right—crunchy tacos, quesadillas, and late-night cravings are officially back in UB8.

It’s the latest in what’s becoming a surprisingly impressive line-up of fast-casual heavy hitters choosing Uxbridge as their comeback or expansion stage. Recently, we’ve welcomed Chipotle, Popeyes, Wingstop, and Wendy’s—a roster that would make even central London glance over with mild jealousy. Bit by bit, these openings are raising the high street’s culinary reputation, proving that Uxbridge really can offer more than just the usual chains we’ve all quietly settled for over the years.

Some might even say there’s now something for everyone. …Alright, maybe not everyone, but we’re getting close.

At the very least, it’s starting to feel like Uxbridge is becoming a place to eat again, not just to pass through on the way to somewhere tastier. A regenerating high street—yes, mostly driven by food—may not be the economic revival politicians brag about, but honestly? We’ll take it. A full stomach is better than nothing.

And while we’re celebrating what’s new, let’s also put something out into the universe: if Slim Chickens is listening, please take note. We love your fried onions, and we would happily adopt you into our rapidly growing family of “better-than-average” fast food. Let’s make it happen.

Until then, Taco Bell’s return as a fast food restaurant is a small but satisfying victory. Uxbridge is on the up—and lunch just got a whole lot more exciting. The grand opening of this fast food restaurant has brought a new wave of excitement and anticipation to Uxbridge.

Taco Bell Restaurant Details: Where, When, and What’s New

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to spice up your lunch break, this is it: Taco B is officially setting up shop right in the heart of Uxbridge’s high street, tucked inside The Chimes shopping centre. That’s right—no more wistful glances at London’s late-night taco runs or scrolling through food envy on your feed. Now, you can join the crowds and get your fix of Crunchwrap Supremes, Volcano Burritos, and all the other Tex-Mex treasures you’ve been missing.

But this isn’t just any TB. The Uxbridge outpost is rolling out a fully Halal-certified menu, plus a generous helping of vegetarian options—so whether you’re a die-hard carnivore or a plant-based pro, there’s something for everyone to sink their teeth into. It’s a fresh view on fast food, and a welcome change from the usual suspects lining the street.

So, mark your calendars and bring your appetite. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just taco-curious, you won’t want to miss the chance to join the Uxbridge crowd in welcoming Taco Bell back to town. Trust us: this is one comeback you’ll actually want to remember.

Community Reaction: Are We Really Excited, or Just Hungry?

If you’ve walked down the high street lately, you’ve probably caught wind of the chatter: Taco Bell’s return to Uxbridge is the talk of the town. For some, it’s a long-awaited chance to join friends for a late-night taco run without the trek into London. For others, it’s a cautious curiosity—will this new arrival add flavour to our local scene, or will we miss the quirky charm of what came before?

The view from the community is as varied as the Taco Bell menu itself. There’s genuine excitement from those who can’t wait to get their hands on a Crunchwrap Supreme, and a few raised eyebrows from locals who wonder if another big name means we’re losing a bit of Uxbridge’s unique character. Still, even the sceptics admit: it’s hard to resist the pull of something new (and delicious) in town.

As one resident put it, “I might miss the old spots, but I’m definitely not missing out on trying Taco Bell.” Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just here for the novelty, it seems everyone is ready to join in and see what this latest addition brings to the table. One thing’s for sure—the view of Uxbridge’s food scene is changing, and Taco Bell is right at the centre of it.

*Update* Pizza Express is now open 🙂

A few weeks ago, I found out that Bella Italia was closing its Uxbridge restaurant. That news came hot on the heels of Pizza Hut shutting its doors too — leaving some locals wondering if we were witnessing the end of the pizza era in Uxbridge.

But fear not, pizza lovers! Just as we thought our doughy days were over, a familiar favourite is making a comeback. Pizza Express is officially returning to Uxbridge after a few years away — a true phoenix rising from the culinary ashes (much like the triumphant return of Waterstones, which I wrote about not too long ago).

This time around, Pizza Express won’t be reopening in its old spot. Instead, it’s moving into the former Bella Italia location, right next to Wagamama and just down from Nando’s. That little stretch of the high street is fast becoming Uxbridge’s unofficial restaurant row — the perfect place for a pre-cinema meal, a weekend lunch, or an impromptu dinner out.

It’s always great to see new life come to the town centre, especially when it’s a familiar name we’ve missed. I, for one, look forward to welcoming Pizza Express back soon — and yes, I’ll definitely be celebrating with a tasty trip (and probably a Padana pizza or two).

Hayes and Uxbridge Pizza Hut Restaurants Set to Close Amid UK-Wide Shutdowns

Two well-loved local Pizza Hut branches — in Hayes and Uxbridge — are among dozens of sites across the UK set to close, following the latest collapse of the company operating the chain’s UK restaurants.

Administrators have confirmed that DC London Pie Limited, which runs Pizza Hut’s UK dining restaurants, has gone into administration. This will lead to the closure of 68 restaurants nationwide, resulting in 1,210 redundancies. In the coming weeks, 11 delivery outlets will also close.

The closures affect restaurants in major cities, including Brighton, Hull, Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh, and now, locally, Hayes and Uxbridge.

The restaurant chain, famous for its family-friendly dining, salad bar, and all-you-can-eat buffet, has struggled to stay afloat amid rising costs and difficult trading conditions. This marks the second time in less than a year that Pizza Hut’s UK business has entered administration.

Brand Owner Steps In to Save Half of UK Restaurants

While the closures mark a blow for local diners and employees, there is a glimmer of hope for the brand. Yum! Brands, the global owner of Pizza Hut, has stepped in to save 64 restaurants and 1,276 jobs across the UK, ensuring that part of the chain continues to trade.

Administrators FTI Consulting said the company had been hit by “challenging trading conditions and increased costs,” with cash flow pressures made worse by “tax-related obligations.”

Joint administrator Matt Callaghan stated:

“The joint administrators will continue to work with employees who have unfortunately been made redundant, to ensure they get the support needed.”

A Tough Year for Pizza Hut UK

DC London Pie had only recently taken over Pizza Hut’s UK restaurant operations in January, after purchasing them out of insolvency. The company also owns Pizza Hut franchises in Sweden and Denmark, but has struggled to keep the UK division profitable.

The closure of the Hayes and Uxbridge branches will be a disappointment to many local families who’ve enjoyed Pizza Hut’s sit-in dining experience over the years — a familiar spot for casual meals, birthday parties, and family gatherings.

No firm dates have yet been confirmed for when the two West London sites will shut their doors, but it is expected to happen within the coming weeks.

In 2019, we reported that Waterstones Uxbridge was set to close for refurbishment, leaving the future of one of the town’s most beloved shops uncertain. At the time, a sign appeared in the store’s windows at The Chimes shopping centre (then Intu Uxbridge), announcing a temporary closure until “Spring/Summer 2020.”

like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Waterstones has returned to Uxbridge

At the time, I remember thinking: how can a refurbishment take that long? With new buildings springing up in a few short months, it seemed an eternity to wait for a bookshop to reopen. I wondered whether Intu (as it was then called) might follow its Debenhams downsizing strategy — cutting the standard for the restaurant, or perhaps yet another in-store Costa. Some feared that Uxbridge would lose its last major bookshop.

During those months of closure, the independent Barnard’s Bookshop in Windsor Street quietly carried the torch for local readers. Many residents, unaware of its presence, rediscovered the charm of an independent bookseller while Waterstones’ future hung in the balance.

Then the pandemic struck, and any hopes for a swift reopening faded. For years, the site remained empty — a sad reminder of the changing face of the high street.

But now, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Waterstones has returned to Uxbridge. After more than five years, the doors have finally reopened. The new store occupies a single, spacious floor, filled once again with the shelves of beautiful books that readers have missed.

For long-time customers and book lovers in Uxbridge, this reopening marks more than just the return of a retailer — it’s the revival of a cultural cornerstone. If you’ve been lamenting the loss of Waterstones, now is the perfect time to show your support, explore the new layout, and celebrate the welcome return of books to the heart of Uxbridge.

Running from Saturday 4th to Friday, 31st October 2025, the festival promises three weeks packed with talks, workshops, performances and community fun.

From crime writing to Shakespearean sonnets, from storytelling for children to creative workshops for budding authors, LitOct is all about celebrating imagination and bringing people together. This year’s line-up includes writers such as Vivien Brown, Sam Davey and Gatlin Perrin, alongside drama, poetry, and even a little mystery.

But it’s not just about books — LitOct also puts community at its heart. Visitors can look forward to the annual Apple Pie Supper, a special creative writing competition prizegiving, an art exhibition by local artist Rosemary Whittle, and a Halloween party to round off the month.

Festival organisers are keen to make the events accessible. A £35 festival pass gives access to nearly everything (excluding the literary lunch and Palooza) and even comes with a goody bag, while individual tickets are kept affordable, starting from just a few pounds.

Southlands Arts Centre has always been a hub for creativity in Hillingdon, and LitOct is a great example of how local venues can offer something special for residents of all ages. Whether you’re a lifelong reader, someone curious about writing, or just looking for a welcoming community event, this festival has something to enjoy.

LitOct runs from 4th–26th October at Southlands Arts Centre, 75 The Green, West Drayton, UB7 7PW. For the full programme and tickets, visit southlandsarts.co.uk/litoct.

With a loyal customer base and a constantly changing range of products, TK Maxx has the potential to attract both bargain hunters and fashion-conscious shoppers, giving the centre a much-needed boost.

While it may not fully replace the department store experience that Debenhams offered, TK Maxx brings a different kind of retail appeal—one that thrives on variety, affordability, and the thrill of finding a great deal.

The Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge, England, is a historic and fascinating site commemorating one of World War II’s most significant events. Located in the heart of Hillingdon, it is a living testament to the bravery of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the crucial role they played in defending the UK against German air raids during the Battle of Britain.

The Battle of Britain Bunker is important for many reasons, and we are lucky to have this piece of history so close to Uxbridge. We will explore the history and significance of this exciting location and provide you with fun facts and a comprehensive FAQ to help you understand this unique and important site.

With the start of the holidays, it is always a mad scramble to compile a list of things to do with the kids when they have all that free time to get bored. And while there are plenty of things to see and do all over London and the UK, we decided to do a few things closer to home. So we are visiting some of the local attractions and days out that Uxbridge and Hillingdon offer.

History of the Battle of Britain Bunker

The Battle of Britain Bunker was built as a secure underground operations room for the RAF between February and August 1938, during the height of the Battle of Britain. The bunker was designed to house the Command Centre of 11 Group, responsible for defending southeast England against German air raids. The Command Centre was responsible for directing the actions of fighter squadrons and ground defences and providing real-time updates on the location of enemy aircraft.

The Battle of Britain Bunker played a critical role in the defence of the UK during the Battle of Britain. The Command Centre was the nerve centre of the RAF’s air defence network, and from the bunker, officers could monitor the battle’s progress and make crucial real-time decisions. In 1940, the bunker was equipped with the latest in communications and radar technology, which allowed the RAF to respond quickly and effectively to incoming German raids.

What’s here?

The main parts are the bunker itself and the visitor centre. The bunker has 77 steps leading down to it, so it isn’t the most accessible; there is also a visitor centre if the steps to the bunker put you off. You can buy tickets to the visitor centre, which is cheaper, or the visitor centre and the bunker.

The new, modern building that houses the visitor centre opened in 2018 and is an exciting sight and experience all by itself. Surrounding the building and in the picnic area are full-size replica aircraft: one Hurricane and one Spitfire, and another two aircraft overhanging the visitor centre.

How much does it cost? (Checked Feb 2023)

At the time of visiting the prices are as follows:

Visitor Centre Only/Bunker & Visitor Centre

Adult –

Over 65 –

Children under 16 – Free

But the best bit is that if you have a HillingdonFirst card, you get 50% off your ticket! You do need one for each person that wants a discount, though.

Who would enjoy this?

My nephew is ten and has enjoyed a lot of the history he has studied at school. I was curious to know how much of WWII he had studied or if he was even interested, but he loved the whole experience. He enjoyed looking around the visitor centre and the massive full-size replicas of the Hurricane and Spitfire that are outside the bunker and even liked the half-hour talk in the war room in the bunker itself (I was worried he’d lose interest). The talk was very engaging; the speaker was well-rehearsed, passionate and interesting, and would keep everyone’s attention. Well, not my three-year-old niece, but she is probably a bit on the young side for this. She did fall asleep about halfway through the talk, but she loved looking at all the model planes in the display cases dotted around the bunker.

Fun Facts about the Battle of Britain Bunker

The Battle of Britain Bunker is one of only a few surviving underground operations rooms from World War II.

The bunker is located beneath the site of the former RAF Uxbridge Station, which was an important air defence base during the Battle of Britain.

The bunker was designed to withstand bomb attacks and was equipped with a reinforced concrete roof and thick walls to protect the staff and equipment inside.

During the Battle of Britain, the Command Centre was staffed 24 hours a day by a rotating team of officers who worked in shifts to monitor the progress of the battle.

The bunker was equipped with the latest in communications technology, including teleprinters and telephone exchanges, which allowed the Command Centre to communicate quickly and effectively with fighter squadrons and ground defences.

The bunker was also equipped with a large plotting table, which was used to track enemy aircraft movements in real-time.

In the years following the Battle of Britain, the bunker was decommissioned and remained unused until it was restored and opened to the public in the 1980s.

FAQ about the Battle of Britain Bunker

Hillingdon Council Invites Residents to Have Their Say on Next Year’s Budget

Hillingdon Council is calling on local residents to share their views on its proposed 2024/25 budget plans—so if there’s something you’d like to see improved, now’s the time to speak up. The consultation, which is open to everyone, gives people the chance to help shape where funds are allocated, what services get prioritised, and how their community can thrive in the year ahead.

There’s a clear message here: those who get involved have an opportunity to influence real change in their neighbourhoods. From improved leisure facilities and environmental initiatives to better support for families and young people, this is your moment to highlight what matters most. After all, if you don’t tell the Council what you’d like to see, you can’t really grumble when it doesn’t happen.

The consultation period is designed to be straightforward and accessible, ensuring that everyone—no matter their background or schedule—can make their voices heard. By taking a few minutes now, you can help create a budget that reflects local priorities, values, and aspirations.

So why wait? Offer your feedback and contribute to a brighter, better-managed community. Your suggestions today could help shape Hillingdon’s tomorrow.
